WELFARE ASSOCIATION
ASSISTANCE OF SCHOOL LADY HELPERS MEET
Following the practice which has been adopted at other centres, an enthusiastic meeting of ladies at St. Barnabas’ Hall vesterday decided upon the formation of a welfare association, whose chief object will be the raising of funds for the assist a nee of the Opunahe Distric High School. The chairman o the school committee, Rev. G Wood, presided, and members o: the committee present were Rev •T H. Datson and Rev. .1. H Bailev. Ladies present were Mesdames W. A. Laing, A. McKenzie, Norris. Maindnmdd, H. P. Mann, P. H. Humphries. G. Wood. T. H. Bailey, Sorenson. D. Trotter, Neumann.- Bowman, Shields. A. Mathie. W. H. Richards. A oologies for absence were r«ceived from Ales dames R. H. Hughson, W. Chambers and J. H. Datson. The headmaster. Mr. O. W. Williams, also was present. and the following members uf the teaching staff attended : hisses Fugle. Me,Sherry, Hutchinson and Richards. Referring to the purpose of the meeting, Mr. Wood stated that the considerable growth in the size of the school had made it necessary foi the committee to consider the appointment of a
permanent caretaker, and funds were required for this purpose and for other purposes. The meeting accordingly decided upon the formation of a welfare association. Mrs. W. A. Laiua* being elected president, and Mrs. H. Shields, secrefarv-
treasurer. All present were constituted a committee' with power to add. It is hoped that, in the near future, it will be possible to Interest as active members the Parents of children residing in the country districts. Approval of the suggestion to transfer the school fete to have been b.ehl on February 20 to the beach gain for February 25 was '■’ven by the meeting. In the flare of the fete on Monday
next, a street mart will be held and donations of goods and produce for sale will be gratefully acknowledged.
