BAND OF HOPE

FINAL EVENING OF. YEAR The final evening for the Band of Hope season was held recently in Bt. John’s Hall, when the “Brave Dead” competition decided the winner of the Vanstone Memorial Cup. The winners were : Walton Holmes 1, Gloria Baird and Kenneth Holmes (tie) 2, R. 'Sinclair jnr. 3. In the absence of Mesdames Sinclair and Thompson, the meeting was presided over by the Rev. A. C. Hampton, who congratulated the children on the work done during the season. Prizes for best Temperance essay were presented to the following:— Standard'lV: B. Inskip 1, Jean Holmes 2. Standard V: No-la Beau'foy 1, Audrey Cooper 2. Presbyterian Sunday School children rendered carol items, while a cleverly,-acted charade was given* by a group of senior girls. The Vanstone Memorial Cup was presented by the Rev. Grice to the winner: Walton Holmes, after Mr. T. I. Steele had spoken of the origin of the cup. Supper and the singing of the National Anthcirr-brought the meeting to a close.
