WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MEETING at OTARA The monthly meeting of the Otara Women’s Institute was held at the Otara Hall and was presided oyer by Mrs. W. A. Gault. After the Institute Song had been sung and the Creed had been repeated by the members, tin; usual business was attended to. It was decided to donate £l to the Leper Fund. Two delegates, Mesdamcs E. and J. Young were chosen to go to the Federation meeting at Matata. The Institute offered to take charge of the Patriotic Shop on Thursday, 10th. inst. The Roll Cal] “Gardening Queries” was well responded to. For her Golden Thread, Miss Gordon gave an interesting account of her trip to White Island. A discuss.on between Mesdamcs Hamilton and dc Montalk on “Women’s War work’-’ and “War conditions during the Jast War” was greatly appreciated by the members. Lemon, Mrs. Earp. (Shortbread, Miss Butler. Best llower, Mrs. James Young (tulip). Tho hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdamcs A. J. Medallion, Savage, and O. Black. OPOTIKI MEETING The Opotiki Women’s Institute held their September meeting in the I’ar.sh Hall. The attendance was large, delegates from all the out-district institutes being present to hear Airs. Wooliiold’s report on the Federation meeting held in Wellington. The meeting commenced as usual with the Institute Song and after the business in connection with the Matata F'ederat.on meeting to be held this month had been discussed and new members welcomed, the Woodlands Institute took over the programme. A roll call of tongue twisters caused a great deal of trouble and amusement. This was followed by two musical items by Mrs. Alannix and a team competition. All's. Alulhcrn gave a reading on a Alaori Legend. The hostesses were Mesdamcs .Hamilton, dp Montalk, Alaxwell, Gault, and Neilson. The National Anthem concluded a very pleasant evening.
