GERMAN-JAP. PACT WASHINGTON OPINIONS (New 3 by Cable.) LONDON, Sept. 25. It is officially stated in London that the Shanghai' reports of a Ger-man-Japanese defensive alliance are not confirmedWashington reports state that officials there received with reserve the reports of the Japanese-German defence alliance. They do not doubt that diplomatic collaboration exists, but regard the Shanghai reports as a trial balloon to test the opinion of the remainder of the world, particularly that of the United States. Such a pact, it was said, would throw Japan openly into war w-'th Britain and certainly aggravate the strained relations with the United States.
