DEPENDENT ON BRITAIN OVERTHROW OF NAZIS (News by Cable.) . RUGBY, Sept. 25. Dr. J. H. Hertz, chief rabbi of Britain, in a Jewish new year message, declares : "The spirit of ardent faith is unconquerable. Hope animates the souls ot the men and women of this country in their stand against the heathen rage of the Nazi rulers. Britain is fighting for her very existence and on her -triumphant victory over totalitarian barbarism depends the whole cause of human freedom.” The House of Israel, he said, was the first victim of Hitler’s "callous godliness” and his declared aim was the disappearance of the Jew from Europe. When the idols of the new paganism had passed away, British Jewry would have a double duty “to assist our crushed and outlawed brethren in the struggle for rehabilitation and to restore Jewish religious life wherever it had been ruined by the malice-of man or the disintegration of war.”
