THE NETHERTON BRIDGE
THE QUESTION OF SITE
The following letter from the Under Secretary oi the Public Works Department was read at yesterday's meeting oi the Ohinemuri County Council: — "Your telegram of 4th November to the Right Hon. the Prime Minister, in reference to the erection of a proposed bridge over the Waihou River, has been referred to the Minister of Public Works for attention, by whose direction I have the honour to state that the Ohinemuri Silting Commission made a definite recommendation as to the site on which the proposed bridge should be erected, and no authority will be issued for the
erection of a bridge except at the site recommended by the Commission."
The site of the bridge as recommended by the Royal Commission is a little below the site of the present Puke Wharf.
Mr Laughlin moved that the engineer prepare plans and specifications for a bridge, so that they could ascertain what the cost would be, and could take a poll on a proposal to borrow the balance of the money.
This was seconded by Mr Strange
and was carried,
