THE TURKISH CRISIS.
SPEECH BY MR. GLADSTONE, Mr. Gladstone addressed a public meeting in Liverpool on the Armenian question. Fully 4,000 people were present. Earl Derby presided. Mr Gladstone spoke vigorously for an hour and a-half, and was in splendid voice. He urged the snspension of relations with Turkey, if a peremptory- demand failed, " "With due prudence war could be avoided, but they were entitled to threaten add coerce the Sultan for his breach of special treaties with Great Britain. In conclusion Mr Gladstone said he did not believe Europe would fight to ensure the continued massacre I of the Armenians^ A resolution was carrie.d amid cheers supporting the efforts of the British Government to secure protection for the Armenians.
