St. Kevin’s College ADVICE TO PARENTS When pointing out that the best a college had to offer was often not • grasped because of the immaturity of the students, the rector of St. Kevin’s College, Bro. Ryan, at the annual speech night of St. Kevin’s College, strongly. - advised the parents of successful scr.ool certificate candidates to send their sons back to school to obtain university entrance. The Rev. Father J. A. McCarthy distributed the prizes. Amongst those present were the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs M. F. E. Cooney, the Rev. Fathers Kean and Murray. After distributing the prizes, Father McCarthy complimented the college on the work achieved during the year,, paying a tribute to the brothers. The Mayor said that Oamaru was fortunate in, the fine educational establishments it possessed. He mentioned ,thal his interest in St. Kevin’s dated back to its inception. He had played an active part in securing the Redcastle property for Christian Brothers. He advised the senior boys who were leaving school to take an active part in public affairs, saying it was the duty of the educated men of the country to do so.
