REQUEST TO CHAMBER
Time Off Work For Softball Enthusiasts
A request from the North Otago Women's Softball Association, that employees be granted time off work on Wednesday, January 17, 1951, on the occasion of the representative women’s softball match between the touring Australian team and North Otago, was received at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night. The chamber recommended that employers allow members of their staffs interested in the sport time off to attend the match. Mr J. Meikle was in the chair and there were also present Messrs C. J. Byrne, I. McDonald and F. L. Edwards. Tlie Oamaru Drapers and Allied Trades Committee wrote recommending that the shops in Oamaru close at 10 on the Friday before Christmas and at 9 p.m, on the Friday before New Year, this being the normal practice. It was decided to agree to the recommendation. The president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr Schofield, advised that he would visit Oamaru on February 15 and address an evening meeting of members of the chamber.
