SHORTAGE OF POWER
New American Industries Handicapped PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 11. New Zealand is not the only country without sufficient electric power. Even in the highly developed mass-produc-ing United States, people are having difficulty in keeping up with the demand. Mr L. Y. Corey, president of one of the biggest construction companies in the United States, said on board the Aorangi today that in many cases supply had to be refused to big new industries which were about to be set up. When a new supply source went into operation, new industries would start up and tap all the available supply. Mr Corey has been in Australia in connection with the new big Eildon weir dam which his firm, the Utah Construction Company, is building on a tributary of the Yarra River, Victoria. A 30.000,000-dollar project, the big Eildon hydro-electric and irrigation scheme is the biggest of its type in Australia. It is being built for the Victoria River and Water Control Commission. Among projects which Mr Corey’s company has in hand are the building of a plant in Denver, Colorado, for chemical warfare research and a new research station in New Mexico for the Atomic Energy Commission.
