BIRD COLONY
Otago Peninsula PROTECTION FROM PUBLIC It was hoped later than the wild life colony on the Otago Peninsula would be open at certain times of the year to the public. He wanted to emphasise, however, that some years would probably elapse before the colony was firmly established, said Mr S. P. Cameron at a meeting of the Dunedin Amenities Society yesterday. Mr Cameron was telling members of the society about the appeal which was being launched for the salary of a full-time ranger for the peninsula sanctuary. He thought that the Amenities Society might make a contribution. Mr G. Simpson also stressed that the colony should be left “ well alone ” from the public for a considerable time so the colony could build up its strength. Mr G. S. Kirby was appointed as the society’s representative on the committee which is launching the appeal. It was decided to contribute £25 to the appeal.
