“Baby Sitters” Are Luxuries In New York
A record crop of babies in Long Island suburbs of New York has created such an acute shortage of baby sitters that the authorities have been obliged to take official notice of the parents’ plight. They advised them to lure baby sitters with these promises:— Refrigerators well stocked with snacks. Cigarettes available in quantity—with cigars for baby sitter’s boy friend if he drops in A television set in perfect working condition. Free unlimited use of the telephone, including long-distance calls. A handsome tip when the sitter leaves.
