Teapots.—The water in which potatoes have been boiled is good for removing stains from the inside of aluminium teapots. Fill the teapot with the water and leave to soak for some hours. * * * * Raking Fires.—Have you tried a piece of wood for raking the ashes from a fire? Strange though it may seem, it creates much less dust than a poker. * * * * Awkward Shelves. —Should your sliding shelves or drawers not open and shut easily, rub the edges well with wax polish and then with a soft duster to give a shiny surface. Rough edges should be smoothed first with emery or glass paper. * * * * Dirty Chair Arms.—To clean the arms of covered chairs which get dirty before the rest of the cover, add one tablespoon each of vinegar and liquid ammonia to one quart of warm water. Dip clean cloth in mixture, wring out and rub soiled parts. The dirt comes out and the colours are improved. * * # * New Bread can easily be cut if the breadknife is dipped into hot water before cutting each slice. * * * * Cobwebs.—Always remove these with an upward sweep of the broom to avoid leaving dirty marks on wall or ceiling.
