PALMERSTON SALE
Keen Competition One thousand one hundred sheep and 52 head of cattle were penned at Thursday’s sale. All classes of sheep met keen competition with North Otago and South Canterbury buyers securing the major portion, values were on a par with late rates. The cattle yarded were a mixed lot with only two or three pens of aged cattle, which sold at full market rates. Quotations: — Sheep: Medium fat wethers, 60s 6d to 635; light fat wethers, to 50s 6d; fat ewes, 43s to 445; medium £ ewes, 37s 6d; shorn Romney cross ewe hoggets, 75s to 83s 6d; shorn ewes, full mouth, with good Southdown cross lambs at foot, 36s to 37s lOd; Romney cross full mouth ewes in wool with lambs at foot, 55s lOd; two and fourtooth shorn wethers, 48s 6d to 495; six and eight-tooth shorn wethers, 52s 3d; two-tooth shorn wether Romney-Corrie-dale .cross, 46s 6.d ' Cattle: Three-year-old steers, £l7 13s; three-year B-P fat and forward speyed heifers, £l6; tw’O-year-old steers, £l2 10s; heavy fat cows, £l6 15s to £l7; medium fat cows, £ll 5s to £l4 10s; two-year-old heifers. £9 13s; store cows. £6 to £B.
