CIVIL ACTIONS
Limitation Of Main Classes PA WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. Consolidating and amending the general statutes which deal with the limitation of the main classes of civil actions, the Limitation Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives today. The Minister of Justice, Mr Webb, said the measure was purely of legal significance, although it covered an important point in bringing the law on the limitation of actions up to date. He explained that the period of limitation of action in respect of land was to be reduced from 20 years to 12 years to bring it into line with the English law. The period in which actions could be taken against local bodies would be 12 months, instead of varying periods as at present. Criminal proceedings are not affected by the new legislation. However, in civil law there is a new clause introducing a limitation of two years in actions resulting from death or bodily injury, but by application to the court the time may be extended to six years. The Bill was read formally a second time and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee.
