UNUSUAL ACCIDENT

Damages Totalling £2193 Awarded PA WELLINGTON, May 16. “It was an extraordinary accident,” said counsel for the plaintiff in a damages case heard in the Supreme Court yesterday. Henry Grondin, aged 53, a driver, was awarded a total of £2193 16s 3d in damages, the respondent in the action being the Wellington City Council, which admitted liability. The action was the sequel to an accident to Grondin while he was descending public steps in Newtown on December 17, 1948. A 12ft lamp standard weighing 3cwt fell and struck his head, right leg, and right arm. The standard had been erected in 1940.

Grondin had claimed a total of £4193 16s 3d.
