PALMERSTON RUGBY

Special to the Daily Times PALMERSTON, May 14. Although Shag Point was able to field only 11 players in its RUgby football match against Waikouaiti yesterday, it was defeated only by 12 points (four unconverted trie's) to nil. Without exception, the Shag Point forwards played an outstanding game. Matherson worked hard and showed pace and determination as first and second five-eighths and full-back, as the occasion demanded. The Waikouaiti backs again showed lack of combination, individual efforts by Marshall being fruitless often because of poor handling outside him. The full-back, Ward, played well, and at times showed speed and thrust when joining in passing rushes. Wilson was outstanding among the forwards. Other Rugby results:—Seniors: Palmerston 25. Dunback 5. Juniors: Shag Point 12, Waikouaiti 3; Waitati 27, Palmerston 6. Rain stopped all basketball.
