SURVEY OF FORM

Dillon View Is Due The card will be opened with the Welcome Handicap No. 1, and of the horses who started on the first day Terrace Lass is entitled to consideration. She was in the picture all the way. and finished third. Among the newcomers is Lunaria, a three-year-old by Dillon Hall from Godetia in A. Motz’s stable. She won at the Westland meeting in February. Dillon View, Main Force, and Swithindale raced well enough to suggest that they are not without prospects Swithindale finished fourth over a mile and five furlongs last Saturday, and he is generally well placed in the early stages of his races, so that the shorter distance should suit him. Validity would be troublesome if he made a smart beginning, and Isa Lei, who is now in W. R. Butt's stable, is a likely Improver. Those selected are Dillon View, Terrace LAss, and Swithindale. PROMISING TROTTER Rear Light won so impressively last Saturday that he is sure to be a warm fancy for the Introductory Handicap. He has gone back 24 yards, but he WQn with more than that in hand. Stray Shot and Bishop's Cleeve, second and third respectively to Hear Light, remain on the same marks, and should be prominent again. Harvard refused to trot last Saturday, and his chance depends on a smart beginning. Ingenuity has been a fairly consistent place-getter this season, his last placing being a third to King Pin and Slipstream in the Claremont Handicap at Timaru in March. He is a four-year-old by Quite Sure, and is trained by D. J. .Townley Those likely to be prominent are Rear Light, Ingenuity, and Harvard. THE THREE-YEAR-OLDS The field for the Plunket Stakes has already been reviewed, and it is expected that the fpll .card will go to the post. Of the newcomers, Van Dieman, Morano, and Sydney Victor will probably have the most support, and of those who raced last Sautrday Tiberius, Te Maru, and Preston appeal most. The selections are Tiberius, Te Maru, and Van Dieman. LOCHINVAR IN FORM Included in the field for the Bruce Memorial Handicap is a first day's winner in Lochinvar, and Trixie Milne finished second to Hemisphere after being one of the leaders all the way. They should both be prominent again, s Tekau was fourth to Hemisphere, Trixie Milne, and Squire Dillon last Saturday, and Final Return was running a good race until he was involved in the mix-up that occurred when Preston broke. Tactician has won two of his four races, both at Hawera last month, and he is a promising sort by Springfield Globe in M. McTigue’s stable. Green Spear is due for improvement, but those selected are Lochinvar, Tactician, and tile Sporty Boy-Final Return bracket. FRESH HORSES The field for the Welcome Handicap No. 2 consists largely of fresh horses, but none of them are likely to be in more favour than the bracket of Diligent and Penno's Pride. The performance of Penno’s Pride in running third to Tiberius and Te Maru last Saturday was a good one, and those two horses are not engaged here. Attraction was second to Scottish Nurse last Saturday, and Imperial Lord showed speed for over a mile and a-quarter last Saturday. Gallant Satin was placed in her last two races, and will be bracketed with Essendon. The most likely of the others are Solandri and Tia Maria. The favourites may be Penno s Pride bracket, Imperial Lord, Gallant Satin bracket. REAR LIGHT AGAIN The running of Rear Light and Bishop's Cleeve in their earlier engagements will be reflected in the betting on the Ascot Vale Handicap and if Rear Light goes to the post he will be solidly supported. First day's form points to Jenny Dillon and Bonus being prominent again and Silica’s running suggests that he will go the two-mile journey. Super Sarin would only need to reproduce his Forbur.v Park form to finish in the money and Daredevil was a winner at Hutt Park. He looks the best of the backmarkers. It is an open race, but those selected are Rear Light. Jenny Dillon-Mack Sure bracket, and Daredevil. THE SECOND LEG A splendid field will go to the post for the Captain Sandy Handicap and the race should be one of the best of the day. Hemisphere won brilliantly last Saturday and is the logical favourite but his task will be harder. A newcomer on the front m Emblazon has been showing consistent form for C. R. Berkett, and Economist beat Soangetaha over a mile and aquarter at the Methven meeting. Desert Flight was second in the principal event la£t Saturday, and Trouville, who will be bracketed with Aerogard, was third in the same race. Antrim Hall was a winner at the Rangiora meeting and Kopara Lass will be suited bv the distance. In what will be a good betting race the favourites will probably be Hemisphere, Emblazon and Desert Flight. UNLUCKY LAST SATURDAY The card will be concluded with the running of the Enfield Handicap and here again there are a number of newcomers, among them being Royal Robin, who has collected a win and two placings in his last five starts. Judged on last Saturday’s form, Son's Gift should be hard to beat if he gets a better run than he did in the Papakaio Handicap and Queen of Scots's performance was a promising one. No horse in the race has more speed than Ascot, but he is a doubtful proposition at the barrier. He is bracketed with Scottish Nurse, a winner last Saturday. The favourites may be Son’s Gift, Queen of Scots, the Ascot bracket, and Royal Robin.
