Bar Garrette In Solid Condition Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, May 11. Bar Garrette, The Rip and Birdman, candidates for the Ta Timi Kara Handicap, the principal event at the OtakiMaori Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, were responsible for good trials at Trentham this morning. Dexter, Baadin and Mario showed speed over the sprint On the plough, Bar Garrette galloped boldly over seven furlongs in lrnin 29sec, the last four in 52sec and the final three in 39sec. Bar Garrette disappointed at Woodville last week, but he is in solid condition and would need only to reproduce his track efforts to have prospects on Saturday. Mario again pleased when she left half a mile behind in 50 l-ssec, the final three furlongs taking 36 2-ssec. She may be capable of a surprise in the Ohau Hack Handicap at Otaki. Baadin was too good for Rannoch over five furlongs, finishing a length in front and recording lmin 3 4-ssec, the last four in 50 4-ssec, and the final three in 37 2-ssec. Baadin has done well since she finished second on the final day of the Marlborough meeting. She runs out her races solidly and should race well in the Ohau Hack Handicap. On the trial grass, The Rip was a length in front of Birdman after running a mile in lmin 44sec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. Lady Ella beat Dowry by a length, with Roscarea six lengths away at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 31 3-ssec. Lady • Ella ran the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. She is engaged in two races at Otaki and will have prospects in whichever she contests.
