DISPUTES COMMITTEE

Minister’s Intention PA WELLINGTON, May 10. Mr Sullivan announced today that as the union had agreed to the resumption of work on the King Neptune the Government would arrange for the setting up of a special disputes committee to determine appeals by the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union and the New Zealand Port Employers’ Association against the decision of the Waterfront Industry Commission on this dispute. The offer of the Government to arrange for a special disputes committee was to enable an early and final decision to be obtained as the Waterfront Industry Authority was not at present fully constituted, said the Minister. The employers and the union had both agreed to give undertakings to abide by the decision of the disputes committee.
