Non-Communist Requirement TAFT-HARTLEY LABOUR ACT NZPA—Copyright Rec. 7.37 p.m. WASHINGTON, May 8. The Supreme Court today confirmed the legality under the Constitution of the Taft-Hartley Labour Acts’ nonCommunist affidavit requirement. The Act was adopted in 1947 over President Truman’s veto. It provides that before the union may use the services of the National Labour Relations Board in collective bargaining, union shop elections, and unfair labour practice cases, its national and international officers must swear that they are not members of the Communist Party or affiliated with the party.
