NEW CENTURY APPEAL
Fund Launched In Qamaru Preaching on Sunday on the New Century appeal of the Diocese of Dunedin, the' vicar of St. Luke's Church, the Rev. W. E. D. Davies, said the fund had been launched in Oamaru. Dr E. E. Butler, with a committee, would approach certain parishioners, who, it was expected, would give the venture an excellent start, and Mr M. H. R. Jones and a committee would canvass the business area of the town with the same purpose. Similar arrangements were being made for the outlying districtis, and ladies’ committees were also to be appointed. Mr Davies said that the £IBOO expected from the parish could be realised only by self-denial and generous giving. The Bishop of the Diocese, the Rt. Rev. W. A. R. Fitchett, when speaking in Oamaru recently on the appeal, had asked earnestly for generous support. He had said that if the people thought deeply enough they would show their gratitude for the great blessing vouchsafed to the church in the past 100 years by making gifts with which to commence the second century. Some could give in four figures, some in three, some in two, and some perhaps less, but all were expected to do their very utmost.
