Standard Disappoints Conditions were ideal for hockey on Saturday, but the matches did not come ud to the standard expected. The University and Training College teams being without several of their regular players. Results of the matches: University A 7. HSOB 5. United 4, Wesley 3. Albany 7, TCOB nil. University B drew with Training College nil —nil. UNIVERSITY A v. HSOB The match between University and HSOB .which was won by the students by 7 —5. was spoilt by hard hitting. The University team did not play the short passing game except for a few flashes. The defence of both teams was weak, which accounted for tire high scoring. For HSOB G. Wright, V. McAriey and S. Porter were outstanding and for University G. McGregor and D. Mulheron were prominent. UNITED v. WESLEY Both teams played at a fast pace the short passing game from start to finish and interest was maintained throughout. For United, J. Kilpatrick, K. Paterson and W. Swanson played well, while for Wesley K. Thompson and D. Scobie did valuable work. The final scores were United 4. Wesley 3. ALBANY v. TCOB Albany defeated Technical Old Boys’ 7—o. The Albany team played as a team for the first 20 minutes of the game and scored four go~ls. At not time did they appear extended, though several breakaways by the Technical Old Boys’ forwards were close to scoring. The Technical 6ld, Boys spoilt their chances by hard hitting and their tendency to sit back on defence. For Albany. D. Stewart played an outstanding game, even though he was well marked by J. Leatheby who played an excellent game at right half for the Old Boys. UNIVERSITY B v. TRAINING COLLEGE The standard of play in the University B v. Training College match was not high because both teams had lost regular players owing to vacations. Though botli teams tried hard to register the winning goal, they did not show the necessary finish to complete any movements. The game ended in a scoreless draw. LOWER GRADE RESULTS Second Grade: HSOB 7, Wesley nil: Air Force 3, King’s Old Boys 1: Albany 6, TCOB nil; OBHS won by default from ’University C. Third Grade.: Kings A, 3, Kings B nil; KETC 5, Kings Old Bovs 2; Varsity E 7. United nil- Albany 5, OBHS nil. Varsity D won by default from Training College. CHRISTCHURCH GAMES Sydenham 3. Varsity 2: Technical 6, Woolston 3; Selwyn 4. Trinity 3.
