Shag Point Defeated By Palmerston Rugby Team
Special to the Daily Times PALMERSTON, May 7. In the Senior Rugby Competition, Palmerston 11 (three tries and one conversion) beat Shag Point 5 (one converted try). The score was a good indication of the play of the two teams Shag Point, however, fielded a rather weaker team than expected, and included some of its Junior players. Palmerston players who showed up well were Paul and McLelland (backs) and B. Thompson, Mathers and Hitchcock (forwards). For Shag Point. Murcott, Anderson and Tipa (backs! and Gray and Hitchcock (forwards) were outstanding. Other results:—Seniors: Waikouaiti 14, Dunback 5. Juniors: Palmerston 3, Waikouaiti nil. Waitati defaulted to Shag Point. As Waitati has now withdrawn its Senior and Junior teams from the competition. there were no byes. BASKETBALL Glenross 22, School B 7; School A 10, Waikouaiti 8; Palmerston, a bye. Radio stations at Chatham Islands. Raoul Island (Kermadecs), Campbell Island Rarotonga. Apia, and Niue are manned by Post Office operators.
