SOUND POSITION

Citizen’s Association

” The North Oamaru Citizens’ Association enjoys a happy position—practically every household north of Orwell street being represented.” Mr W. R. Laney, president, said at the annual meeting of the association on Tuesday night. There was an attendance of 25 members. “We are in a very sound financial position, but with more money we could do still more," he said. “We want to look forward to the day when we can do something really big for the north end. If we can build up a sound financial deposit we should be able to seize the opportunity with both hands when it Mr Laney said the association’s most costly job to date was the preparing of the Casa Nova School grounds as a children’s playing area. The expenditure, however, had been well worth while. The lighting of the streets could be considered satisfactory, but many streets had onlv one light where two were required. Mr Laney said that the association was now looking into the erection of a bus shelter at Fernbrook. It was hoped that this would be erected at an early date. Speaking of the association's work in exchanging a portion of land at the top end of Arundel street for a portion 1 - next to the Eveline Hall, Mr Laney said that in years to come this could be used for the purpose of a community centre.
