Business Section Of American Town Destroyed By Fire
NZPA—Copyright NEW YORK, Dec. 26. A fire which began in a Christmas tree last night was estimated today to have caused nearly 1,000,000 dollars’ worth of damage to the business section oft the town of Hyndman (Pennsylvania). The body of a woman in whose home the fire began was found today. Firemen credited a girl telephonist with saving the entire town of 1600 persons from destruction. They said she stayed at her post sending out calls for help to neighbouring fire brigades although the flames were licking at the telephone building. The fire burnt out one block of buildings and damaged buildings in three other blocks. The post office, the bank, 12 stores and about 23 homes were gutted and others were damaged.
