INTERNATIONAL PARTY AT YWCA
World Fellowship Week
An International party was held at the YWCA last‘night as the festivity in connection with the week of Prayer and World Fellowship, which began last Sunday. The hall was gaily decorated with national flags and bowls of garden flowers, whilst the long tables set for supper held plates of Belgian biscuits, Swiss chocolate roll, Viennese kisses, Polish tartlets and French bonbons, as well as the more ordinary sandwiches and sausage rolls. The main course of the meal was an authentic savoury Chinese dish, given by Mrs Sew Hoy and cooked by Chinese helpers. The programme arranged also had an international flavour. Some of the new settlers from Esthonia and Latvia sang their native songs and gave a folk dance, a Chinese song was given, a piper played whilst a kilted girl danced both slow and lively Scottish measures, and Maori visitors entertained with a poi dance and song. National songs were given by the Business Girls’ Club, and the Teenagers' Club presented a play, " The Man in the Bowler Hat.’’
Mrs Mackie Begg, the president, greeted the many guests, and Mrs F. W. Mitchell, chairman of the Programme Committee, thanked the many people who had helped in the novel and successful evening’s entertainment.
