A DOCTOR’S PLEA
ROAD JO GLENORCHY PLIGHT OF RESIDENTS Staff Reporter QUEENSTOWN, Oct. 13. . A declaration by the Mayor of Queenstown, Dr W. A. Andersoq, that he had brought tears to the eyes of Ministers of the Cabinet in drawing attention to the plight of the residents of Glenorchy, who were without adequate means of communication, drew a shout of laughter from delegates at the South Island Local Bodies’ Association conference at Queenstown to-day. Moving that the Queenstown-Glen-orchy road project be given urgent attention. Dr Anderson said that hardship and even, loss of life had occurred at Glenorchy because of a doctor’s difficulty in reaching the head of the lake. A launch took three hours, and sometimes he had left in the evening and not reached Glenorchy until 7 o’clock in the morning. He was afraid of the serious consequences of lack of medical help. Dr Anderson said the Glenorchy people were cut off like lighthouse keepers by a stretch of water which was often very rough. The Mayor of Port Chalmers, Mr T. Anderson, drew another burst of merriment by asking Dr Anderson if he would give them his prescription for bringing • tears to the eyes of a Minister.
It was decided to request the executive to take appropriate action concerning the Queenstown-Gienorchy road project
