Recent Tractor Fatality A verdict that Noel Douglas Campbell died at the Public Hospital at Oamaru on August 30, 1949, the cause of death being extensive lung damage and other multiple injuries received when a motor tractor he was driving accidentally overturned and pihned him underneath, was returned by Mr Colquhoun, coroner, at Oamaru yesterday. William John Campbell, father of the deceased, said that on July 30 he was assisting his son to feed sheep. The tractor which the deceased was driving stalled while going uphill. It ran back a short distance, swerved off the track and went over a steep bank. Witness was thrown clear, and when he recovered he found his son pinned under the tractor. He immediately secured assistance from Mr E. C. Ruddenklau, a farmer, residing two miles away, and the deceased was taken from under the tractor He could not suggest what caused the accident. Edgar Charles Ruddenklau gave evidence of taking the deceased and his father to hospital, and Dr D. W. Low said that in his opinion death was due to lung damage. In returning his verdict, the coroner expressed his sympathy with the wife and relatives of the deceased. Inquest Concluded An inquest into the death of James George Rowley, aged 62, single, who was found dead in his hut at Otiake on August 1, was also concluded. A verdict that the deceased was found dead on August 1, 1949. the cause of death being heart failure, was returned.
