CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 11. Though there was plenty of galloping on the trial grass track, the jumpers provided the main interest in the work at Riccarton this morning. Golden Reign gave a dashing display m a school over three hurdles, and furtbei added to the list of his admirers later when he beat Hunting Mac, with Homespun further back, in a working gallop. These three are all candidates for the Grand National Hurdles, and Golden Reign will have admirers. Desert Trek made his best showing as a jumper since he has been here. F. J. Boyle kept him up to his work, and, though he hit the first flight, he cleared the other three in tine style. Tikakoura, who started with him, was pulled up. after breaking a stirrup leather at the first obstacle Gold Song and Aristea went well over six hudles, going very fast over the last four. Minion led Arctic Circle over two hurdles Minion afterwards beat Military Chief bv a neck over a mile on the grass, the first half in 56 4-ssec, Arctic Circle being five lengths back. Zulu Boy jumped four flights safely, while Quadrille went over two without much pace Specialist Pleases Specialist, Diameter, and Regular set out for a school over eight of the schooling fences in the middle of the course. Specialist soon opened up a gap from Regular and held it to the end, giving an attractive exhibition of fast jumping Diameter blundered at the first of the stand double the first- time, but later joined Regular. They completed the journey together till they reached the double again, where Regular jumped away from his-mate. Regular was going short after his work. Blanket and Trencherman were mates over five fences. Blanket jumped well, but Trencherman’s effort was moderate. Western Front did the best mile on the fiat. lmin 32 3-ssec, the last half in 52 l-ssec. Merry Robin and The Stormovik went comfortably in lmin 36sec, while Gunther beat Our Gold and Jon Rosa in lmin 37 3-ssec Sprinting Tasks Romantic and Valid did the best six furlongs, lmin 18 2-ssec. Playtos, Tuatea, and Flying Control registered lmin 19 l-ssec Ned Kelly, after giving a start, finished with Supreme Command in lmin 19 4-ssec which Fine Night equalled, the last half mile in each case being done in 52 2-ssee. Rappel took lmin 20sec, and Prince Defaulter beat Valley Gold in lmin 20 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 52sec Distinction and Talent were not hurried to do lifiin 21sec, the last half-mile in 54sec. Racedale easily beat Flying Gleam in lmin 21 4-ssec. Th’ornbridge was joined by Lady Christine for the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Finigin and Magnaform were on terms over five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 l-ssec. Open Range equalled this, but took 51sec to come home. Terminus did lmin 4 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec, and did his work very well. Personality was too good for Royal Scrip in lmin 5 4-ssec, Finance finishing further back, after setting the pace. Revelry and Dissenter took lmin 7sec. Heather Flight sprinted half a mile brilliantly in 49 l-ssec, after Lorna Leigh had done 50 2-ssec, which Haughty Lyric equalled Watchword shaded Maryburn in 51 2-ssec. Julius Ca?sar and Trench Fray took 52 l-ssec, which Swayup equalled, while Infatuate and Stagdance ran down in 53sec. Johnny Peep did three furlongs in 38 3-ssec.
