RABBIT DESTRUCTION
Sir,—” Fewer Rabbits, More Production ” is, like many more farmers, very concerned about the alarming increase in the rabbit population. As for the Rabbit Destruction Council, it is a body of Government nominees formed for the precise purpose of forming rabbit boards; going round the country addressing meetings and administering the oral anaesthetic before the major operation is performed. Note the effect on your Evans Flat correspondent in last Friday's Daily Times. Obviously he must have attended one of these meetings. He first insists on discussing rabbit boards. When that question was changed a couple of weeks ago, he then says he is definitely against a board; he follows this up by wanting, to thank me for my effort in getting a board put on; he gets sheep and rabbits all mixed up, and to finish up he forgets 1o -sign his name and just signs a number, probably thinking he is still In the army. He will likely wake up when he gets his rate demand at about 2/6 per acre, and ask, where are all the big subsidies he was promised by the Rabbit Destruction Council, only to be informed that that body is at present in the Hawkes Bay district experimenting on a new problem. dropping salt on the rabbits’ .tails by aeroplane. j There is one straight question I would like to ask the Provisional Committee; Will they publish a budget of the proposed Tuapeka Board; also a summary of the mode of working?—l am, etc., Lawrence.
