STEEPLES TO AMORLAD INVERCARGILL TRACK HEAVY PA INVERCARGILL. May 15. There was an excellent attendance at the Birchwood Hunt’s annual meeting, held at Invercargill on Saturday. The weather was fine and sunny, but the track was in a heavy state. The totalisator handled £34,474, against £25;567 at last year’s meeting, an increase of £8507. The acting stipendiary steward, Mr W. A. Saunders, of Dunedin, questioned the form of Prize Ring, who finished a long way behind the placed horses in the Gardner Memorial Steeples. The following statement was handed to the press: "A meeting of the Judicial Committee was held under rule 282, clauses 1 and 2, after the running of the Gardner Memorial Steep'echase to inquire into the question of whether Prize Ring, owned by Mr D. P. Wilson, and ridden by D. Dawson, had : been run on his merits. After hearing the evidence of the jockey and the owner, the committee resolved that in its opinion the form shown by Prize Ring was consistent with that shown in his previous twos starts and that no action be taken.
