Young Duck Flies From North Island To Waitaki River
PA WELLINGTON, May 11. The first band retrieved from a duck this year was forwarded to the wild life branch of the Department of Internal Affairs by Mr A. Hall, of Oamaru, through the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society. The bird, a young grey duck banded near Palmerston North oh March 7 last, was shot on the Waitaki River on the opening day of the game season in the South Island.
Mr Parry, Minister of—lnternal Affairs, in discussing this -long flight today, mentioned that it was the longest duck flight yet recorded in this country and was all the more interesting as it had occurred before the opening of the North Island game season.
