PARTY’S PLANS
MR HOLLAND SUMS UP “YEAR OF EMANCIPATION” PA WELLINGTON, May 11. The issues the electors of New Zealand had to determine at the general election this year were analysed by the leader of the Opposition, Mr Holand, in a two-hour speech in the Wellington Town Hall to-night. The year 1949, he said, was the year of New Zealand’s emancipation. The return of the National Party, Mr Holland said, would mean no more socialisation, more private enterprise, more competition, more goods, infinitely more freedom and lower living costs. To return Labour meant more socialisation of industry, more controls, more restrictions, more shortages and higher living costs. Mr Holland summed up the National Party’s plans as follows: To help the Empire to recover its strength and power; to increase production; to fight the curse of inflation; to reduce living costs; to reduce controls and restrictions; to take firm and resolute action against Communists; to bring about* harmony in industry and destroy class, feeling; to encourage and reward the people who would work and to prepare the Dominion’s defences as far as its resources would permit.
