ELECTIVE POSITIONS
UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MR G. STRATTON A NEW MEMBER A new member on the council of the University of Otago will be Mr G. Stratton, His nomination as the representative of the governing bodies of secondary schools was the only one received when nominations closed yesterday afternoon. A postal ballot election will be necessary for two representatives of the Court of Convocation as three nominations were received. The nominations for the elective positions on the council are:— Court of Convocation: The Very Rev. Dir D. C. Herron (present Chancellor), Dr J. D. Salmond, Mrs D McKinlay. Teachers in Secondary Schools: Mr I. G. Garden (sitting member). Teachers in Public Schools: Mr E. Partridge (sitting member). School Committees: Mr J. C. H. Somerville (sitting member). Governing Bodies of Secondary Schools: Mr G. Stratton. The sitting member, Mr W. R. Brugh, did not seek re-election. Mr Stratton is at present a member of the Otago Higfa Schools’ Board and is also president of the King’s High School Parents’ Association. Mr W. Downie Stewart, pro-Chan-cell or of the University of Otago, did not seek re-election. He is a representative on the council at present of the District Court of Convocation and has held office in 1912-1920 and since 1942.
