“OFF SEASON” PERIOD
CAUSE OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN VANCOUVER PA WELLINGTON, Apl. 15. It was admitted that there was considerable unemployment in Vancouver, although much of it was seasonal, and an improvement could be expected before long, said the High Commissioner for Canada, Mr Alfred Rive to-day. commenting on reported statements by stowaways in Auckland Unemployment was normal for this time of the year, he said, as the early spring was always considered an “ off season.” Mr Rive pointed out that the figure for the whole of British Columbia and Vancouver Island was 42,000 and that the unemployed in the city of Vancouver totalled only approximately 20,000.
