The end of the second series of stock sales in Central Otago for this year was held at Middlemarch yesterday, 6600 sheep being penned. From the start of the sale, prices were buoyant, and they continued to be so throughout. There were buyers present from South Canterbury, Oamaru and Southland, and local buyers competed freely. One-third of the yarding comprised medium small ewe and wether lambs, which sold particularly well. The balance comprised annual draft sound-mouth crossbred and fine crossbred ewes, values being firm. Quotations: Medium Romney crossbred two-tooth ewes, to 535; small Romney crossbred, 43s to 46s 6d; cull two-tooth ewes, 35s to 375; medium to small finewoolled two-tooth ewes, 435; best annual draft s.m. crossbred ewes, 38s 3d to 40s; medium, 34s to 36s 6d; good fullmouth crossbred ewes, 28s 9d to 32s 9d; medium, 24s to 26s 3d; best annual draft f.m. fine crossbred ewes, 34s to 37s 6d; medium. 28s to 30s 6d; f.m. ewes. 17s 6d to 22s 3d; medium to small Romney cross ewe lambs, 31s to 33s 6d; cull ewe lambs, 25s 6d to 27s 6d; best Romney cross lambs, 28s 3d to 29s 6d; medium wether lambs, 25s 6d to 27s 3d; cull wether lambs. 21s 6d to 24s 3d; fat four and six-tooth wethers, 58s 6d; forward two-tooth wethers, 40s 6d; medium two-tooth wethers, 35s 3d to 36s 8d; small, 31s 6d.
