LEAGUE CRICKET
MATCH AT INVERCARGILL CANCELLED NO GROUND AVAILABLE The Invercargill Inter-House Cricket League has cancelled the two representative matches that had been arranged to be played at Invercargill against teams from the Otago Cricket League on Saturday, April 2. The secretary of the Otago Cricket League, Mr S. C. Riilgrose, yesterday received a letter from the secretary of the Invercargill Cricket League, Mr W. C. Frampton, in which the writer stated that as from April 1 the Southland Rugby Union automatically took jurisdiction over all grounds on which it was possible to play cricket, and it had declined to make any of these grounds available on April 2 The writer added that, when the Cricket League chose April 2, it was because March 26 was the day of the association representative match between Otago and Southland, and it would have found extreme difficulty In fielding a team in the face of that counter-attraction. The Cricket League had not foreseen that the Rugby Union would take the stand it did. and as the union wa s not disposed to meet the Cricket League in any way, the latter had to cancel the game for this season.
