FUNCTION AT TOWN HALL ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS CONCLUDED The Otago Early Settlers’ Association’s 101st anniversary celebrations were bi-ought to a close yesterday, in the afternoon an informal function attracted another large attendance to the Town Hall, and the dance at night was also an outstanding sucThe president of the association. Mr W. R. Brugh, presided at the afternoon gathering, when an attractive programme was presented, two of those who gave items receiving particularly warm welcomes from the old folks in the audience. They were Mr Peter White, aged 89, and Mrs Orr, aged 92. Mr White gave flute solos, and Mrs Orr a recitation. Amongst others who contributed items were Mrs H. Hamer, songs and recitations; and Mrs W. Barkman, piano solos. Brief addresses were given by Miss B. J. W. Nicholson, the Mayor, Sir Donald Cameron, and Mr Eric Skinner, a member of the committee. The chairman referred to the interest still being taken in the affairs of the association by Miss E. Sherriff, who is 92, and she was accorded a hearty round of applause when she rose in acknowledgment. The Mayor stated that he had called on Mrs James Dey, who was unable to attend this year’s functions owing to illness. Mrs Dey had been convener of the Ladies’ Committee for many years, and the chairman stated that a letter of sympathy would be sent to her from the association.
