GERMANS SENTENCED
GUILTY OF WAR CRIMES FORMER ARMY OFFICERS N.Z.P.A.—Copyright LONDON, Oct. 29. More German generals were found guilty of war crimes by the American War Crimes Court yesterday. They were indicted for inciting, promoting, or ordering the murder and ill-treat-ment of prisoners of war, _ partisans and civilians of Nazi-occupied countries. ■ The following sentences were im-posed:—Field-marshal Wilhelm von Leeb, three years’ imprisonment; field-marshal Georg von Keuchler and General Hermann Hoth, 20 and 15 years’ imprisonment respectively; lieutenant-general Warlimont and Reinecke, both to life imprisonment; General von Salmuth and lieutenantgeneral von Roques, both to 20 years’ imprisonment;’ Lieutenant - general Woehler, to eight years’ imprisonment; General Reinhardt, to 15 years’ imprisonment; Lieutenant-general Hollidt, to five years’ imprisonment. The court ruled that time already spent in prison since capture on May 7, 1946, would be deducted from the sentences, which means that von Leeb will be freed at once. Admiral Otto Schniewind was acquitted. Reuter’s Munich correspondent says the German News Agency reported that the executions of 159 German war criminals sentenced to death by American war tribunals would be resumed to-day in the Landsberg prison.
