MUKDEN FALLS TO COMMUNIST FORCES
N.Z.P.A.—Copyright Rec. 10 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 30. The Associated Press correspondent in Nanking says that according to reliable reports, Mukden. Manchuria’s largest icity, has fallen to the Communists.’ Mukden’s fall to the Reds would mean the Government’s loss of practically hll Manchuria. The Washington correspondent of the United ’Press says high-ranking Government officials are reported to be considering the evacuation of American naval units from the Com-munist-threatened Chinese port ot Tsingtao. Areas around the port have been infiltrated by Communists and they may soon make a link with the northern Communist forces. The Amercan Navy his three cruisers and 12 destroyers in the area where they have been training Chinese naval crews for the last three years. An official report in August gave the number of marines in Tsingtao as 3470. • Official circles in Nanking this morning were without confirmation of the reported loss of Mukden to the Communists. The British and American Consuls decided to remain in Mukden with their staffs, but permitted the Chinese personnel of their Consulates to leave if they desired. Apart from tiuee on the Consular staff, the Britons in Mukden will not exceed 12, the majority missionaries.
