DAMAGE BY INSECTS
TUSSOCK IN WAITAKI AREA Concern at- the damage being done to tussock by insects in the region under its control was expressed by members of the Waitaki Soil Conservation Committee at a meeting this week at Omarama. It was decided to try to obtain the services of an entomologist to study the problem. The implementing of the Rural Fires Bill as it affects the district was discussed, and it was decided that the councils interested be approached regarding their co-operation in the administration of the Act. Concerning the regulations on burning of tussock, satisfaction was expressed by committee members on the general cooperation shown by many holders on this point, and on the reduction of the acreage burnt this spring. It was decided that the burnt areas be inspected and their condition recorded for future reference. Before the meeting the committee inspected the soil conservation work done on the Tawa Hills block.
