Croquet Clubs Hold Opening Meetings

Members, honorary members and friends of the Watea Croquet Club were welcomed at its official opening by the president, Mrs A. Rayner. Guests included Mrs Buchler (0.C.A.), Mr W. Rutherford (Mayor of St. Kilda), the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, and Mr N. Anderson. Mr John Wilson, patron of the club, ran the first hoop and declared the greens open. Competition winners were Mesdames Newall, Dove, Buchler, Soal, and Master John Braithwaite.

At the opening of the Leith Croquet Club last week the president, Mrs Emery, welcomed Mr Ferguson (Bowling Club), Mrs Wheatland and Mrs Stinson (Ladies’ Bowling Club), and Mrs Newall (0.C.A.). Mrs Newall ran the first hoop and declared the lawns open for the season. Competitions played on the lawns were won by Mesdames Buchler, Holmes and ForMrs' J. Briggs, president of the Caversham Club, welcomed members and friends to the official opening of the club's lawns on Saturday. Mrs Chapman, president of the 0.C.A., outlined the coming season’s activities and declared the season open. Competition winners were Mesdames Homer, McFadgen, and Miss Alexander. „ ~ . The Punga Club held the official opening of its season on Thursday. The president, Mrs McDonald, welcomed members and a large gathering of visitors. Afternoon tea was followed by competitions, the prizes for which were presented by Mrs McDonald to Mesdames Townley, Hangar and Williams.
