NEW LOOK COATS SEEN AT FORBURY
Off-white coats were numerous at Forbury Park last Saturday, the second day ,of the Trotting Club’s spring meeting, and many were in the new look style. Amongst those noticed was one in natural herring-bone tweed in the new length and with a full peplum. Another was in deep blue and featured a fitting style, edged with braid and with an accentuated hip line. Deep pink wool was the material chosen for a third, and it had a full swinging back and the newly popular hood. Coloured gloves were again noticeable and at least half a dozen were wearing coloured nylons in shades of navy, black and purple. Some wore shoes with anklestraps, some favoured instep straps and gold studded shoes were also popular. Many muticoloured umbrellas were carried by those who feared that the wet weather experienced earlier in the day would continue. The weather was also responsible for the appearance of furs and the choice of coats in preference to the lighter spring styles. Amongst those seen in the stands were Mesdames W. L. G. McKenzie (Edendale), J. Smith (Methven), A. A. Wilson (Wyndham), A. Jackson. T. Davidson, T. M. Grade (Invercargill), H. M. Bishop (Hawke’s Bay), W. J. Gardner, W. Smith, C. E. Peek (Wellington), F.
