EXCEPTION TAKEN
SIR HOWARD KIPPENBERGER’S REMARKS • 2nd N.Z.E.F. ASSOCIATION P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. Exception to the remarks at Invercargill of Sir Howard Kippenberger, president of the N.Z.R.S.A., was taken by the secretary of the Wellington branch of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association, Mr Reg. Childs, in a statement to-night. Sir Howard had said that the argument advanced by the association _in question to universal military training was “disgraceful.” “We do not believe that the brunt of a new world war would fall on the men who have already served their country, but many of these men will have imparted knowledge of their experience to volunteers, and perhaps many J Force boys. I think,, however that my association will be wholeheartedly behind the Prime Minister in his decisions in regard to defence at the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference, even if he finds it necessary to institute a defence training system other than voluntary," said Mr Childs.
