Baccarat Won At National Meeting

Baccarat, one of W. J Broughton's mounts at Trentham to-day, won the only race he has had so far this season, the first division of the Woolston Hack Handicap at the Grand National meeting. He was one of the leaders throughout, and lasted long enough to beat Idle Jest by a neck. Baccarat is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Sir Crusoe from Horomea, and he is trained at Trentham by W. G. Hawthorne. He is engaged at the Wellington meeting to-day, and in the Rimutaka Handicap he has drawn 23 at the barrier. One of the horses he will meet will be the smart English-bred galloper. Super. Jottings Acceptances for the first day of the Gore meeting are due on Monday. The Night Raid mare Citation has been retired, and will be mated with Kol Ragi. Super looks one of the best prospects among the southern candidates at Trentham to-day. Smart Beginner Whitley has not had a race since January, and may not be quite at his best at Geraldine to-day. He is. however, usually a smart beginner, and that is an advantage at Geraldine. Mounts at Trentham W. J. Broughton’s mounts at Trentham to-day are Demonic, Champagne, Bacca-, rat, Distinction, Talent, and General Victory. and L. J. Ellis's will be Sweet Nymph, Golden Amber. Royal Tan, Trinidad. Air Belle, Ballochbuie, and Resolute. L. W. Hare will ride the Wingatui horses Frances, Super, and The Grate.
