P.A. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 17. Large yardings were forward in all sections at Lorneville to-day and the high prices of recent weeks were maintained in most sections. The feature of the sale was the £4O realised for a bullock sold by the Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association on account of Mr C. McDonald, of Otapiri. The price was the highest at a Lorneville sale for about 20 years. Heavy-weight wethers again brought high prices and values of up to 88s 6d were recorded. Fat Sheep.—A full yarding consisted mainly of wethers, the majority of which were of medium quality. About half the ewes yarded were heavy-weights. Heavyweight wethers made 80s to 88s 6d; good quality medium-weights, 73s to 78s; handyweights, 85s to, 70s; light-weights, 57s to 625. Prime young ewes made 64s to 68s 6d; medium. 53s to 58s; light-weights, 45s to 50s; aged, 40s to 445. Fat Cattle. —There was also a full yarding in this section and the entry included some extra good quality sorts. Last week’s good values were maintained and in some cases there was an improvement of up to 30s a head. Prime heavy-weight bullocks made £37 to £4O; medium-weights, £26 to £29; handy-weights, £22 to £25; lightweights, £l7 10s to £2O. Prime heavy Heifers made £26 to £2B; mediumweights, £22 10s to £25: handy-weights, £l9 to £2l; light-weights, £ls to £lO. Prime heavy cows made £23 to £25; good quality medium-weights, £l9 to £2l; light-weights, £ls 10s to £l7; aged, £li to £l3.
