The Oamaru Garrison Band has a busy year ahead of it, and already it has entered for two provincial contests, one at Christchurch on October 16, and the other at Alexandra on November 13 and 14. The test selection for Christchurch, " The Merry Monarch,” has already been received and rehearsals have commenced. The selection by Donald Brideer was the work chosen for the Daily Herald 1947 national brass bands' championships of Great Britain, third section, held at Belle Vue. Manchester. The march and hymn are to be own choice. Quickstep practices have also been held, and Mr Allan Bremner has been appointed drummajor. A dance to raise funds to send parcels to the City of Coventry Band will be held on September 18. and on September 19 the band will be associated with the eighty-fifth anniversary of the Oamaru Methodist Church.
On Thursday the band will take part in the North Otago Scottish Society’s monthly concert, and members will be heard in solo, duet and quartet numbers. It has been decided not to enter for the Dominion brass band championships in Auckland next year.
