POST-WAR SHIPPING
RECONDITIONED LINERS FOR NEW ZEALAND TAMAROA SAILING THIS MONTH N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 11 The fourth Shaw Savill ship to be reconditioned after war service before returning to the New Zealand passenger and cargo trade is the Tamaroa. She will sail from Southampton on August 27. In view of the great demand by New Zealanders awaiting passage home and by settlers under the Governments’ immigration scheme, her accommodation has been remodelled to provide 370 tourist class passengers instead of 132 cabin class carried be fore the war.
The Cumberland will be • launched at Glasgow to-day for the New Zealand Shipping Company by Mrs H. W S. Whitehouse, wife of tne chairman of the Federal Steam Navigation Company. The Cumberland is the sixth of a series of eight identical cargo liners built,, or being built, for the New Zealand and Federal companies as part of their post-war programme. She is designed to carry 14,300 tons dead-weight and have a sea speed of 17 knots. No passengers will be carried.
