NEXT EMPIRE GAMES
ALLOCATION TO DOMINION ALMOST CERTAIN
N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent LONDON, Aug. 9. It is understood unofficially that New Zealand is almost certain to be allotted the Empire Games in 1950. At a preliminary meeting of Commonwealth representatives now in London for the Olympic Games it is believed that only Canada and Bermuda were against the games going to New Zealand. A definite decision will be reached on Wednesday morning, but there seems little doubt that the games will be allotted to New Zealand unless some unexpected change of opinion occurs. A Press Association message from Wellington reports that the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has received no official information about the allocation. Stating this, the chairman of the association, Mr H. I. Austad, added that it was known that the matter was to be discussed by representatives of the British Empire Games Association at a special meeting during the Olympic Games.
